As an LA wedding officiant, I have been a part of civil ceremonies at every venue imaginable – large ballrooms, small restaurants, very public amusement parks, and intimate backyard hot tubs. But the Getty Center, with its sleek but stunning architecture and its massive collection of artwork, is one of the best and will surely enchant every wedding guest, not to mention the lucky couple.
Sustained by the J. Paul Getty Trust, the Getty Center opened in 1997. The complex’s unique white facade is uniquely modern while still calling back to previous eras of human history. The Getty Center finds itself straddling two ridges on the outskirts of the city bordering the prosperous Bel Air neighborhood. Its prime location offers some of the best views in Los Angeles. In the foreground sit beautiful mansions, and in the distance high-rise buildings mixed among the unique neighborhoods that provide Los Angeles with its charm.
But views from the outside, as amazing as they may be, don’t come close to rival the views of the inside. Wall after wall, hall after hall is adorned with some of the finest artwork in human history. Masters from Vincent van Gogh have to Paul Gauguin have some of their most famous pieces on display throughout the enormous gallery.
Along with the more famous paintings, the galley is filled with ornately decorated aristocratic furniture, carefully carved sculptures, and hidden gems from unknown but masterful artists. With years of experience as an LA wedding officiant, I can confidently recommend the Getty Center for your wedding day.
