Are you planning on getting married in Los Angeles but don’t know where to tie the knot? LA is such a large city that it can be intimidating to decide on where to go for a day trip, let alone a suitable wedding location. Luckily for you, I can help. As the city’s top wedding officiant and a Southern California native I’ve been a part of over three thousand LA weddings and I’ve been to thousands of marriage venues in every neighborhood in this wonderful urban agglomeration I call home.
North of Malibu in the mountains of Topanga is the Inn of the Seventh Ray, a great restaurant and a great LA wedding venue. Shortly past the turnoff for the Getty Villa on Pacific Coast Highway, turn to follow the sinuous Topanga Canyon Boulevard as it weaves through the mountains, leaving behind the affluent suburbs of Malibu and melting into wilderness. Then, after a few miles, homes and stores will begin to appear among the trees. Among them is the Inn of the Seventh Ray.
The Inn grows out of the forest – it’s cloaked from the main road by a veil of trees and lush vegetation surrounds the dining area. Sparse chaparral canopies of leaves hover above the tables, providing an abundance of shade from the often unrelenting LA sun. Much of the patio floo is covered with simple brick and rock, giving it a rustic and romantic feel.
In my four decades as a wedding minister in Los Angeles, I have officiated thousands of ceremonies at numerous wedding venues for people getting married in LA. Some of these venues I have only been to once, others multiple times. Few, however, are as popular as Point Dume. I have been fortunate to be part of dozens, if not hundreds of wedding ceremonies at Point Dume. Every time I’m here I am taken aback by its awe-inspiring natural beauty.
Malibu is known for its beaches and cliff sides, but nowhere are the two appealing wedding day features more majestically melded on this stunning promontory. Jutting outward from the hills and slicing the beaches below in two, the Point Dume promontory has unrivaled views of the Pacific Ocean and the distant Channel Islands.
